The books that changed everything last summer

It all started with a five dollar bagel sandwich last summer. But that's a bit of a story, so I'll have to save it for when I have some time. But that five dollar bagel sandwich led me to these books (and the blogs in the blogroll to the right) that have entirely changed everything I thought I knew about food and nutrition. And I'm thinking this is only the beginning.

In Defense of Food, Michael Pollan
The Omnivore's Dilemma, Michael Pollan
Nourishing Traditions, Sally Fallon
The Unhealthy Truth (This one got me really riled up), Robyn O'Brien
Real Food, Nina Planck
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, Barbara Kingsolver
And this website: Weston A. Price Foundation (his book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration is on my list of books to read, and when I have the money in my budget I would love to become a member of the local chapter of the foundation.)

Read them. If you don't have time, take an hour and watch Food, Inc. the movie--it sums it all up rather nicely. Talk to me about them. I'm learning how to cook, and loving it! Join me in trying to be healthier, happier, and nourish my children.

Prior to the bagel incident I had read a couple of books that were also influential:

In Praise of Slowness, Carl Honore
Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser

Also, why I drink my milk raw (unpasteurized).
